UPCMT 2016
UPCMT 2016
The state finally made the call on UPCPMT, putting it away and making way for NEET for admission to medical courses. Now, CPMT in UP stands cancelled for 2016, at least.
Uttar Pradesh government clarified recently that the Combined Pre-Medical Test (UP CPMT) will not be conducted this year. UP CPMT has been the major exam till last year for admission into medical courses offered at medical institutions across the state, but this year state government decided to go away with the entrance exam.
UP government has decided that all admission into medical courses will be done through CBSE-organized National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) has already been conducted pan-India which witnessed participation of over 6.5 lakh students across the country, AIPMT is being considered as the first phase of NEETwhile second phase of NEET will be conducted on July 24.
Principal Secretary with medical education department, Anup Chandra Pandey said, “It has been decided to go with NEET for admissions to state run MBSS and dental colleges. For admissions to courses under AYUSH, a notification would be issued soon.”
UP CPMT was earlier scheduled to be held on May 17, 2016, but was cancelled owing to the Supreme Court’s verdict giving way to nationwide common entrance test for admission to medical courses across the country. It was only when Central government brought an Ordinanceinto force, allowing states to conduct their own common entrance tests that state decided to go ahead with their respective CETs. While several states including Telangana, Maharashtra and others went ahead with their CETs, Uttar Pradesh goverment decided to scrap its CPMT and comply with NEET for facilitating admissions to all seats offered in government medical institutions across the state.
Medical aspirants across the state are now required to appear in NEET, for which the results will be announced on August 17 and hence counselling process for admissions would begun.
